General Job Summary: Position is responsible for performing duties and providing specialist histotechnical services for Mohs micrographic surgery. This position requires a high degree of precision, critical thinking, and efficiency in preparing tissue specimens while supporting surgeons in a collaborative clinical environment.
(This is a part-time position that will support the Dermatology team at SouthPark)
Primary Job Responsibilities/Tasks may include, but not limited to:
This position requires a high degree of precision, critical thinking, and efficiency in preparing tissue specimens while supporting surgeons in a collaborative clinical environment
Prepare and cut frozen sections from tissue specimens using Mohs surgical techniques
Process and embed excised tissues to ensure optimal preparation for histological evaluation
Perform histological staining techniques to prepare laboratory slides accurately
Assure quality control of slides and maintain compliance with laboratory standards and protocols
Document all processes in accordance with the Mohs procedure guidelines and laboratory policies
Interact with patients and clinical staff in a friendly and professional manner
Oversee the maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment and instruments
Maintain a safe and sterile laboratory environment while adhering to OSHA and CLIA regulations
Complete additional tasks as assigned to support the laboratory operations
Requirements:
Education and experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Histotechnology or a related field is required.
Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as a Histotechnologist (HTL) is highly preferred.
A minimum of 2 years of experience in Mohs histotechnology is advantageous.
Proficient in laboratory techniques with strong attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Able to work effectively both independently and within a team setting.
Physical Requirements:
Work consistently requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling.
Must be able to lift and support weight of 35 pounds.
